How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: A way to avoid powergaming in roleplay is to more or less 'suggest' what we were doing. As if we were leading into it, giving time for other players to react to it, without it happening instantaneously. Of course, this would be actually limited to what our character could actually do.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming can disrupt fair roleplay because it is technically knowledge our character doesn't know, but we the player know or may know. This disrupts fair roleplay because it may lead our character to do acts that wouldn't make sense unless they knew some information they wouldn't ordinarily know. Not only does this disrupt the roleplay, but it also takes away from roleplay since in a way it takes away in genuineness.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

I look at the old woman who had captured my attention, tilting my head slightly with curiosity. "You're interested in my story? Haha..." A light chuckle escapes my throat as I walk over to take a seat on the cushion the woman had gestured to. "I'm not sure exactly where to begin, but I guess you could say I am not from here. I'd probably call myself tourist or sightseer, but since I was young I've always wanted to explore the world." I look around the room, taking in every detail from the candles to the rubble that may be lying around as I speak. "I guess I was always kind of independent, and left home as soon as I could - my guardians were kind don't get me wrong, but ahh... I could only stand around and see the same trees everyday for so long." Crossing my legs, I lean forward to rest my head on my hand. A deep sigh comes from my mouth and a smile appears. "I'd love to meet people and make friends where ever I go, though but eventually, I'd like to settle somewhere where I am accepted and welcomed." I then sit up straight to look at the old woman. "Not very tragic as one might think, but not every story should have to be sad! I should thank you, this has been a good reflection on what I am here for. I truly can't want to see what this land has for me." I blink a few times before realizing I never introduced myself. "Oh- I forgot to tell you my name, it's Able. What is your name?"
