Aly Burrows was born to a happy Halfling family, and raised in the village of Dunshire. Her mother was a kind and gentle woman, who loved music and dancing. Her father was a serious man (for a Halfling), and spent most of his time farming the land. Most of Aly’s time growing up was spent with her mother and older brother, as her father had little idea of how to care for children. She spent most of her youth dancing, playing, and growing flowers outside of her family home. She took after her mother, with an unyielding cheerful spirit.

Her days of happiness did not last forever though. When Aly was twenty three, her mother grew ill and frail. Aly tried to help take care of her as well as she could, but Aly’s mother passed away by the next year. Her father grew more reserved and distant after this, leaving Aly and her brother to grieve by themselves. Unable to understand why her mother had to leave her, Aly began looking into what happened after death. This began to lead her down a dangerous path. After a year of study into souls, she managed to convince a shady travelling merchant whom she had befriended to procure a book on necromancy for her. She believed that the ability to bring things to life could not possibly be evil. However, it did not take long for her brother to find the book in her belongings, as locks are not used in Halfling society.

Aly’s brother brought the book to their father, who was greatly angered. He left the house in a hurry saying that he would make sure she was taken care of. Aly’s brother had not seen his father in such a rage ever before. Worried that his father would take things too far, he warned Aly of their father’s response. She quickly gathered up what she could of her belongings and left the village.

Aly has since been searching for a new home, far away from her home village. She has found incredible wonder in the societies of the other races, though she has also found great trouble trying to fit in.  Unable to understand the “selfishness” of non-Halflings, she can be found constantly taking things that she wants and needs from others without their permission. Despite her dealings in the darker things, Aly still seems to have an air of cheerful innocence surrounding her. Perhaps someday she will find a place that she belongs. Or perhaps her curiosity will lead her down a darker path.
