You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Thank you," Arthur began, his voice steady despite the unease that danced in his stomach. "My name is Arthur Fontaine. I hail from a bustling trade city far from here, where my family's name is known amongst the markets and trading posts. My father, a merchant of some renown, and my mother, an herbalist with a touch of... let's say, unspoken talents, have shaped the man you see before you."
"I've spent my life amidst the clatter of commerce, the scent of spices and the rustle of silk. Yet, amidst the wealth and abundance, I've always felt a void, an unquenchable thirst for something beyond the tangible, the material. My mother's discreet teachings, the subtle art of herbs that heal not just the body, but perhaps the soul, hinted at a world beyond our commercial grasp."
"I come to this... unique town, not for trade or material pursuits, but in search of knowledge, of power that I believe is my destiny to wield. Magic, the arcane arts, call it what you will—I seek to master it, to fill the void that worldly goods cannot."
He let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding, the candlelight flickering as if in response to his confession.
"My journey is not just about personal gain. I've seen the disparities, the injustices that plague our lands. With the power I seek, I aim to right wrongs, to protect those who cannot protect themselves." His gaze moves into the distance, his eyes almost glazed over with his own visions of the life he wishes to lay before him, before he jerks back to the crone. "But first, I must learn, I must grow."
