Archigenes was born in a typical highlander family in the rural parts of the current Hanseti Kingdom. His childhood was pretty ordinary, he grew up helping in his father's workshop and despite being second born, he was expected to inherit his father's profession. But life drastically changed for him when the Coup from 1637 took place. Both with his father and older brother, were mobilized and dispatched to as soldiers to protect the civil population from gangs and bandits.
During his time as a soldier Archigenes learned a lot. His father thought him how to fight with a sword and how to write properly. He always said to him "A true man must be as proficient with the pen as he is with the sword". Due to his strictness Archigenes developed a good handwriting. Also during that time he met a woman who was serving in the medical corpus which was attached to their squad. For short time they developed strong feelings for each other. And the day before he was planning to ask his father for permission to bring her home and marry her, the captain of the squad received an urgent message that a nearby village was taken over by bandits.
When the squad reached the settlement, from distance it looked abandoned but the captain issued an order to enter the village, and thus making a grave mistake. Enraged by several defeats, the bandit gang had decided to set a trap. The squad suffered heavy losses but even though the bandits were ended. Despite the grand victory Archigenes did not smile that day. His father and brother were caught outnumbered and were gravely wounded, the medical corpus was also ambushed and ravaged by the gang. Limping with his right leg and mindlessly searching for his beloved one, he spent 3 days searching the local area. Left with one eye he went trough every road, house and shack he could reach. But he did not find the person he was looking for.
Broken mentally and physically he spent the next days roaming aimlessly in the village where the remainings of the squad set camp until the arrival of the reinforcements. As he was walking across one of the roads Archigenes stumbled upon a young boy. Covered in mud, it was crying for a reason only it new. Orphaned after the recent event the boy had lost everything he held dear, fate, similar to the one Archigenes suffered. And as he was watching him, an idea came to his mind. Archigenes decided to deny the destiny which the fate chose for the young boy and he decided to put him up and raise him.
And so Archigenes took the boy home and raised him in the ways of the highlanders.
Years passed, the boy turned into a man and when he was old enough he decided to take the road and forge his own luck and destiny. Left alone there wasn't much holding Archigenes to his lonely and silent homestead. Driven by the dreams of his beloved, one day he left his home, with his old sword on the wrist and bag pack full of nothing but simple food and small medallion engraved with "D.L."
