You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
As the young girl known as Babs, her real name being Bambi Kate, stood in the doorway with her arms crossed, she walked in confidently, then sat in the chair. "You know the saying, elders first."
As the old hag stared at me, after a pause, she began to speak. "Well now, it started in the lagoon. I hobbled out of bed, arthritis you know, when all of a sudden, I was kidnapped."
I started looking at her with suspicion in her eyes as I told her, "Go on."
The old hag began again, "I don't know much. They put a used smelly bag over my head. The ride took what felt like hours, maybe even days. When I could finally see again, I was in some kind of cement basement looking cellar.
" The old hag started to hug herself before speaking. "Oh my dear, the horrors from within that basement. I tried the only tactic I know—kindness. I tried to soothe them like a grandmother would do, but that only angered them more. They tried to get me to talk, but I had nothing to say. I didn't know the words that were coming out of their mouth. I'm just an old lady, I don't know these new words you young ones have come up with. Anyway, I went days without food or water. They gave me just enough to survive but not enough to suppress the hunger".
The old hag began to look at her wrinkled hands before fiddling with her fingers. "One day, I thought it was the end. Until a boy came in. Just like the ones who took me, he was wearing all black. Only, this one came to rescue me. Once we left the basement, he ushered me to a small raft. Long story short, I'm here, now a runaway being hunted".
As she finished speaking I looked at her with my arms and legs crossed, slanted on the chair. "Cut the shit. You don't get kidnapped or accept handouts from strangers. Lose the cover-up, don't try to hide your beautiful features, grandmother".
She smiled at me with a grandmother loving smile, before taking off her disguise. "We need to find them," she said with a serious tone. Noticing the seriousness in her tone I sat up straight, my hands now on the table. "We will, grandmother. The O'Malley's will be reunited with us once more, I promise". Just then I woke up. Waking, I realized The Old Hag was a vision of my own story. My home The Blue Lagoon. That's where my first nickname originated from, Blue. Only, when I got older it went to Babs short form of Bambi. The Old Hag was my grandmother telling me my story, reminding me of the mission I must set out on.
