How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Using out-of-character information to make in-character decisions.
A good example would be using a Dynmap to locate somebody, and then going there in-game to gank them.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: I have heard this and "Godmoding" used interchangeably, so I will define both.
One is emoting on behalf of another character.
IE : "My character stabs yours, you die."

Another is making yourself impossible to touch.
IE : "I dodge all 150 arrows like Neo in The Matrix."

Both are ... kinda' boring, actually.

It's important to use the words "Try" or "Attempt to" when emoting an attack.

Al'masi turns his ruby red eyes to the gentleman, scowl forming on his face as he squints in slight for all of a second. His eyes would look the man up and down, sizing him up before his stern gaze would fall to the man's eyes.

"My -place- in society, human?" he asks, sounding rather indignant. "Keep your adventure, and stuff your coin. You couldn't afford my rates." he scoffs, shaking his head and moving past the gentleman. The man would try to speak again, only to be cut off by Al'masi. "Not interested." he says as he walks away. "Worm." he grumbles under his breath, insulting the man.

Al'masi stuffed his hands into his pockets, eyes moving about the shops and stalls. As a recently freed gladiator, and an even more recently contract-free mercenary, all he had to do was find some unlucky fool.
Some fool who wants to pay this fool to hurt another fool.

The circle of life.
