You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Maedran sat quietly, unsure whether to turn back or keep going. After a while, she sighed heavily. "I come from a distant land, born to my parents during their travels on a windy night. I was quite a surprise." Maedran chuckled softly before continuing, "My hometown was deeply religious, devoted to a single god. Faith was everything, even the education system revolved around this deity," she said, a frown appearing on her face. "So, as I got older, I delved into the art of healing, a pursuit met with disapproval from both my village and parents. They believed only the divine could save lives. My attempts to help were met with accusations of interfering with the divine plan."
Maedran nervously looks down to her dress "One crucial night, the chief's daughter faced death during childbirth. Despite hours of collective prayers, the situation remained dire. Unable to passively watch, and mindful of the woman's unfulfilled desires, I defied the village's beliefs. I healed the daughter, providing relief but exposing myself." Her face falls, tears forming in her eyes as memories of the day resurface. "The villagers, firm in their convictions, argued that if the woman was meant to live, the god would have healed her; if she was meant to die, so be it. My protests, backed by evidence of my healing abilities, fell on deaf ears." Tears streamed down Maedran but she swiftly wiped them away "The consequence was swift – expulsion from the village, a complete break from the life I knew but driven by a deep yearning to find like-minded individuals and a place to truly belong I knew this was for the better."
