Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
(I'm going to alter this slightly to fit with a couple of my friend's backstories.)
As Mazrin approaches the tent, he hears the angry voice of his youngest sibling, Elowi. The young fool is causing the elderly woman some trouble, as he always does. Sighing, Mazrin pulls back the flaps and approaches his brother and the older woman. "I apologize for the rudeness of my younger brother", he says, before grabbing Elowi by the back of the neck and scolding him. "You know we cannot treat others in such a manner.", he says scathingly. "Now sit down and show you possess manners befitting a high-born." Looking back at the eldery woman, Mazrin smiles and slowly sits down in front of her.
"Our story begins many years ago, but I would like to be brief as we need to get some supplies and keep moving", he says. "Our parents ruled over an underground city within a cave system, far to the north." "They prospered, and we brothers lived a good life, comfortable, and content", he continues, "We wanted for nothing and we were happy." A flash of anger crosses Mazrin's face and he says in a low voice, "But, the jealousy of others' brought our grand life crashing to the ground." "I dragged my two brothers from the fire of our burning house, and we have been wandering ever since."
