On a cold winter night, a baby was left at a cabin in the woods owned by a young human couple. Never having known his real parents, he was adopted by the couple, Terlisle and Everiel.

They named him Kwentyn, after Terlisle's grandfather. His adoptive parents were simple but hard working folk and raised Kwentyn as their own.

He grew up without siblings but had two best friends who he spent most of his time with as a child. His father, Terlisle, would frequently take him deeper into the forest, teaching him to forage and hunt.

This quiet life would not last, however, as one fateful day a group of guards from the Kingdom of Norland would show up at their cabin. They barged in, breaking the door off its hinges and scaring the young Kwentyn. They shouted his father's name, demanding to know where he was. It turned out that Terlisle was a fugitive, accused of murder and desertion. He calmly walked out of his bedroom and placed his hands behind his back. His hands were bound with rope and he was lead away without a chance to say goodbye to his family.

5 years passed. In that time, Kwentyn's mother contracted a disease. It started out as a low fever but over the months grew more and more severe until eventually she could do nothing but stay in bed.

Kwentyn did everything he could to provide for himself and his mother but a single man can only do so much. Winter came and their supplies were dwindling. One night it got so cold that he could not keep the fire going and it extinguished. Minute by minute, the freezing weather crept into the cabin. Unfortunately, the cold was too much for Everiel and she passed in her sleep.

Kwentyn mourned the loss of his mother. His childhood friends having long ago moved to greener lands with their families, he was alone.

There was nothing left for him in these woods. The nearest settlement was far away but he thought he might make it if he went during early dawn.

Morning came and he gathered what few crumbs of food and coin he had left and set off. The journey was harsh and rough but he made it to a small village, where he slept in a barn.

Since then Kwentyn has been wandering across Almaris, doing what he can to survive and helping those who need it.
