You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

I look at the elderly woman in utter confusion, "Sorry, who are you?" I ponder the unfamiliar old lady's question, "You know what, it cant hurt." I sit down on the strangely comfortable cushion, "I'm a high elf, I came from the capital Haelun'or. All my life I've been interested in magic and I wanted to see and experience the wonders and knowledge that the rest of the world could bring me, you know?" I take a deep sigh before I continue, "And my dad is probably the worst father ever." I shake off my bad mood, "Anyhow, the main reason I left Haelun'or was to try and study magic and see the world for myself." I smile at the old lady, feeling slightly more connected to her than before.

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I make sure that I only express my character's actions and words and do not describe what any surrounding player is doing. For example, character 1 may have in mind what their character would do (based on personality, etc...), but if character 2 started forcing character 1 to do and say specific things it gives 'god' like power to character 2. It is also not fair in the sense that one person doesn't have any opportunity to express their character.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It doesn't allow for any real connection between characters and creates disruption in roleplay. It also disrupts the smooth flow of character conversation in roleplay. For example if character 1 had been talking OOC with character 2 and discovered a lot of personal in character information about character 2 then revealed said information in roleplay, this would be unfair to character 2 and may put character 2 at a disadvantage.
