    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using knowledge in-roleplay that *your character* should not possess. Just because you, the roleplayer, are aware of certain secrets, doesn't mean that your character has any idea of them.
    For example, if you saw two other roleplayers talking OOC about a conversation their characters had, your character should still be totally unaware of that scene!
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is determining other the actions of other people's characters for them- in other words, forcing someone else to behave the way you want them to.
    A dramatic example is "MyCharacter slices with their sword and chops YourCharacter's head off, killing YourCharacter", but it can also be smaller, like "MyCharacter takes YourCharacter fishing and they have fun", if the two roleplayers have not previously agreed to have their characters go fishing together.

He was so distracted by the overwhelming rush just from stepping off the dock that he didn't even notice the man approaching him, and nearly leaped out of his skin at the cheery voice. "You- you scared me," he sighed, leaning over to catch his breath. And then he immediately straightened up again, because oh, he was being rude, and that was the last thing he wanted to do in an unfamiliar environment full of strangers and chaos. "Um, but it's alright!" After that hasty addition, he ran a hand through his messy hair- an nervous tic of his- and finally replied properly. "None- none of those? I... well, I mean, I suppose I'm just looking for inspiration. I've never been somewhere like this before, so... I wanted to see these people's... agricultural, and, and horticultural customs."
