How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I prefer to roleplay more simple characters. For example, the character I have in mind for this server is a simple tavern owner, or even a cook or brewer to existing taverns if they wanted more help. With that being said, she wouldn't be a perfect cook at first and she may be a bit clumsy when tending to tables. In general, I would just make sure what she does is within her skill set and range and not be to over the top with her actions.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It is basically would be like powergaming. Irl you can't master something simply by reading a how-to. Someone who is roleplaying an apprentice mage can read the wiki to learn how to do it but still roleplay with mess ups and accidents and create a story on becoming a master which is far more interesting than someone who just spawns in being able to do high power magic and gloat to those who haven't gotten to that part in their RP.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

I look around the small tent, confused and scared, as I slowly sit on the cushion offered to me.

"This doesn't look like a tavern," I think to myself as I still look around, "Was the-"

"Well!" the old lady exclaims, snapping me away from my thoughts, "Are you going to say anything Miss, or are you not wanting the job?"

"No! I mean, yes. I want the job," I say quickly as I look at the woman, before looking around the tent again, "I just... wasn't expecting this"

The woman chuckles lowly as she takes a sip from a cup I hadn't noticed she was holding, "Oh deary, this isn't where you'll be working. It's just easier to hear you here."

I nod slowly at her statement, still unsure.

"So what brings you here for work?" the woman asks, not looking directly into my eyes.

"Umm," I begin softly, "Well, none of the taverns in the city would have me since I haven't done a job before. I love to bake and cook so this job is just too perfect to give up looking for it!" I say in a determined tone, glancing at the croon quickly to notice a seemingly uninterested expression. I start to quickly stammer, "A-and I know how to work the land! My parent's often let me help out in the farms when they didn't have time for me."

A small smirk creeps from the corner of the woman's face as she nods in acknowledgement, "Are you married yet? Need to make sure you have permission to work."

I start to snicker softly before noticing the seriousness on her face and quickly shake my head, "No ma'am. No one would marry a girl who can't bear children, which is fine by me," I finish my looking down at the skirt of my dress, pretending to dust something off.

(Applicant's Note: So, I'm pretty new to RP and wanted to join this server because of how serious it takes the lore and storyline. Joining would be a completely new and learning experience. I kind of want to play a more background/support character since I work during the week and may not be able to get on everyday. I'm also not too sure how to continue explaining the backstory. Viviana doesn't come from a high ranking noble family, but also not a peasant. Maybe a very low ranking noble. I am torn between having her work in a bakery or a tavern. It really depends on if the bakery thing is possible with the plugins you guys have. If so I'd prefer the baker route to the tavern owner one. Making waves in the story would be fun, but I don't really have the time, or know how to do so. I just kind of want to get my toes wet and learn.  And I know this part isn't really what you were looking for in this section of the application. It just seemed like the best place to tell my intentions for my character. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my application and feel free to message me if you have any questions. :D)
