How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming means using real life facts and situations for a fictional, in game character.
For example, if Cuciu (me) receives a message from a friend in the afternoon and finds out that a Cave Dwarf will attack me, my character (Edyrm Elaroris) is already preparing to defend himself against him. And that would mean Metagaming because my character in the game would not have known that he had to defend himself if I (Cuciu) had not been informed.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is a way of dealing with games in order to obtain maximum progress related to a certain objective.
For example, I (Cuciu) give the emote "Edyrm jumps off the building and swings his sword, cutting off Crines arm instantly." And that would mean power gaming, because it's unreal to be able to jump off a building and cut off a player's hand.

"Well, my dear friend...I have travelled 48 days and 6 hours, looking for adventure. I come from a faraway enchanted land", he said smiling and taking a bow in front of the gentleman.

"Edyrm is my name and I am seeking for the truth. I will give you a hundred golden coins if you are so kind as to show me your beautiful city."

The two gentlemen passed slowly by several areas and in the end stopped at a so-called famous tavern.

"Here. my dear sir, lies your truth! Enter and you shall be granted!..."
