In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid powergaming by keeping my character’s actions realistic and within their limits. I never force outcomes in emotes and instead write actions as attempts, allowing other players to respond. I focus on fair, collaborative roleplay rather than trying to control or “win” a scene.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it breaks immersion and gives characters unfair knowledge they did not learn in-character. When players act on out-of-character information, it removes realism and can create unfair advantages. Good roleplay depends on keeping character knowledge separate from player knowledge to maintain trust and balance.

Character Name: Corin Pell
Character Race: Heartlander
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Average height, lean build; sandy brown hair and bright eyes. Wears dark practical layers with leather straps and worn boots.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example:

Corin hesitates only a moment at the threshold, nose wrinkling faintly at the scent of rot and damp canvas. His gaze lingers not on the hag at first, but on the candles - suspended, steady, unmelting. His eyes narrow slightly, measuring their distance from one another before he steps fully inside.

At her words, he blinks.

“Expecting me?” he repeats lightly, glancing over his shoulder as though to ensure no one stands behind him. Satisfied, he steps forward and lowers himself onto the cushion, smoothing his sleeves with careful precision.

He tilts his head, studying her face in return.

“I was not aware I was due anywhere,” he admits with a small, easy smile. “But I have been told I arrive places at inconvenient times.”

His fingers tap once against his knee before stilling.

“This town seemed…” He inhales softly. “Uneven. As though something leans too heavily to one side. I wished to see it closer.”

His bright eyes flick once more to the floating candles.

“If you have been expecting me, then perhaps you already know the story. I am curious which version you have heard.”
