It is not entirely known where Parowin was born. This is because his parents had left him in the care of his aunt when he was a child. His parents had previously lived in a more remote area of Haelun'or’s lands. However, after the Forest Realm declared war on the Silver State in 1735, they decided it was unsafe to raise him there. They returned to the capital Lareh'thilln. However, after the skirmishes with bandits when Parowin was 3, his parents left him with his aunt. What remains of the parents has never been discovered. He had no siblings, but since Parowin was brought up by his aunt and uncle, he was quite close to his twin cousins, Arlei and Restrel, female and male respectively. They often all traveled together. In his early years under his aunt and uncle’s care, he became immersed in the arcane. He devoted much of his early life to studies, although he never failed to join Arlei and Restrel in playing games. The three of them were known pranksters in their neighborhood. When he was in his 20s, the three of them set forth to try and find his roots and his parents. They traveled all through Haelun’or for clues. Unfortunately, there as not much learned. However, the years spent travelling and meeting new people helped shape Parowin into the Elf he is today. It is during these years that he began to train both his mind and body. Restrel ended up getting married, so he departed from their travels, so Parowin and Arlei continued alone. To this day, Arlei remains Parowin’s closest friend. It was through Arlei that Parowin had met his now-deceased wife. She hand joined in the travels and eventually settled with Parowin in Lareh'thilln. Years after her death, Parowin began to travel again. This is in part because he found an interesting text in the Eternal library that mentioned his parents helping Dimaethor Elervathar along with other citizens to abolish both the Silver Council and the Sohaership. It mentioned that his parents had helped search for a suitable area for the people of Haelun’or when they migrated from Atlas to Arcas. Learning that, Parowin set out towards the Ice Wall to learn more about his parents. This time, he started his journey alone, as Arlei had a happy little family of her own.
You would not necessarily say that Parowin was slight of build. He certainly appeared lean and even thin through his elegantly designed robes; however, peering closer, you can see that he has a great wiry strength. The first thing you notice about him when you approach is his sharp blue eyes. They are not as dark as some of the eldest of the sub-race, but they are certainly dark enough to carry years of wisdom. For those that may be put off by those keen eyes, any unease is immediately washed away by his affable smile. He honestly loves to meet new people and loves to learn from them. He is perhaps a bit friendlier with the other races than his Elders. In fact, he has had a rebellious streak that his younger brethren do not even necessarily follow. Namely, he does not believe that the sub-races of elves and the other races should view each other as unequal. But what he lacks in ethnocentrism towards his race, he makes up for with personal pride. Although he is amicable, good-natured, and quite intelligent, he deeps a bit too deeply into the well of Pride. Hand-in-hand with his ego, his Pride can get the better of him. He does actively try to notice when he is being led astray by his overly prideful thoughts. However, this does not always work. When there are affronts to his pride, he gets heated, though it may not translate to negative words or action on his part.
He believes in equal parts training of the mind and body, often meditating and training physically for hours. However, his primary passion is that of the mysteries of the world. He pores over texts both ancient and modern to learn all that he can. However, he worries that he may miss out on other aspects of life if he reads too much. Thus, he limits his research to allow for an active social life. This is the reason he general gives his friends. But there is another underlying reason he does not mention. He fears that even reading all the texts in all the libraries will not answer his questions, and that even after a full elf’s life of research he would not be able to uncover these answers. So he limits himself so that he does not feel that despair. Not unlike reading an amazing novel, one ends up speeding up when the plot thickens, but rather than miss elements of it in pursuit of the end, he opts to take his time so that he isn’t left wanting after having finished.
This wisdom comes from his 50 years. He has had years to restrain his Pride, which ran rampant in his youth (causing some awkward situations to this day). But all in all, Parowin has a young man’s spirit. Most recently, he has taken to exploring the world to find more worthy experiences and perhaps cracking away at his experiments along the way. It is a dangerous world at times, but an attacker may want to think twice before launching at Parowin. His physical aptitude and intelligence are enough to make someone hesitate, but his growing knowledge of magic can be put to use as well.
Some say that there is a deep sadness behind Parowin’s eyes. It is true that he had lost his first mate many many years ago. It was a love like none other. If you see Parowin from afar, lost in his thoughts with a smile on his lips, you can know that he is thinking of her.
Despite his affable nature, Parowin can become quite intimidating if you manage to anger him. Usually this is not an easy feat, but there are a few things that drive him to this rage quickly. One is the wanton loss of life, which likely comes from the loss of his lost love. He is quick to act when he sees situations that needlessly waste away lives, even if it means putting himself in too much danger. The other thing is willful ignorance. There are people in the world that decide they do not want to learn more, but instead of admitting their ignorance and attempting to rectify it, they push their own erroneous views on the world. Someone blabbing their mouth in this manner nearby will not necessarily get a rise out of him, but if Parowin sees that others are being coerced by these words, he will generally attempt to stop it.
Parowin smiles at the stranger, sizing him up. The gentleman seemed to have been waiting before the market for something. Whether Parowin was his intended target or just one that stood out or was just nearer, he did not know.
“Hello, my good man. I am choosing not to limit myself to any one of those things. I am here to experience life and learn all that I can. If an opportunity for adventure or wealth presented itself, so be it! Now tell me, why do you wait here to ask this question to me?”
The gentlemen stood with his hands behind his back and smiled more deeply.
“Well, I’ve got quite an adventure for you then.”
As he brought his hands to his side, Parowin tensed mildly, preparing for what may come. He had traveled to too many places in the world to know that one does not start near the Ports looking to ask passing questions to strangers without some ulterior motive. He would not be done in so easily. As the strangers hands came forward, Parowin saw that he carried a handful of papers.
“My friend is looking for someone to help!” The stranger offered a flyer to Parowin.
“Well thank you. I will look into it!” With a smile, Parowin walked away before glancing down at the paper. It seemed someone needed a practitioner of the arcane. Perhaps the gentleman sized him up as the only High Elf getting off the boat. He folded the paper and placed it in his pocket. It could be interesting to look into. He paused to look back at the gentleman, just barely catching him watching him leave.
