In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: The best way to avoid powergaming is to roleplay fairly and realistically. Normal every day humans can't do triple backflips over people and can't be 7 ft tall made of pure muscle, and so making sure to roleplay a realistic and well balanced character is important to ensuring you don't come off as powergaming. Another thing to do is never to force actions on another player, the way I interpreted this is kind of like how in D&D there aren't "aimed hits" (i.e. I go for the enemies head = instant killed), you can of course in a combat scenario say you're swinging your sword towards someones neck or head, but this should be with the expectation they'll likely parry or block in some way, as they themselves are playing realistically and don't want to die. Overall, play fair, be respectful, be realistic and do what's fun for everybody, not just yourself.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming can cause a lot of issues for roleplay, creating scenarios where secrets are widely known even if they shouldn't be, or people taking advantage or acting on something that was discussed only out of character and not in roleplay. This is disrespectful to the roleplay experience and to other players, we're all trying to create a story for our characters that lies solely on the server through roleplay, not through out of game chats. Another way metagaming could impact roleplay is through OOC deals (i.e. something like I'll paypal you $5 to go kill this guys character for me), which breaks immersion, breaks rules, and is overall not conductive for a positive roleplay experience.

Character Name: Dietrich
Character Race: Adunian
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Dietrich has hay colored blonde hair, standing at 5'11 with a weight ranging around 200lbs. He has green eyes and typically wears chain armor.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Dietrich recoils a bit at the sight of the hag, before giving an awkward half grimace/half smile in response "Errrr... expecting me? I'm not sure you have the right person." he'd state, his eyes narrowing slightly.

(going to assume hag lady gives a response good enough for him to just sit down and talk about his story)

"Hmmm, there isn't all that much to tell to be honest. I grew up on a homestead near that one town with the big white tower, a city in the Numenedain territory that I can't remember the name of for the life of me... Regardless, lived a pretty normal and boring life there for most of my years, now I've set off looking for some adventure, maybe some excitement in my life. My father passed down his old guards armor to me to keep me protected a bit out here, and I fashioned the tabard out of some tent cloth." he'd purse his lips nervously, "I don't have much of an exciting story."

Dietrich would stand and inch his way backwards to the tents exit, keeping his eyes on the hag as he did so, "I best get going... see you around, I guess?" he'd dart out of the tent and make a break for it out of that dingy town, keeping a fast pace along the roads until he was miles away, he then finally settled for the night, going off road slightly to set up a tent in a nest of trees. He slept the night away, hoping the next day held some exciting, and less creepy, interactions and adventure.
