In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid powergaming by keeping my character’s actions realistic and not forcing results onto other characters. I phrase actions as attempts and give the other player a fair chance to respond, and I don’t roleplay unrealistic strength/skill for my character. Example: instead of ‘I stab you in the heart and kill you,’ I would write ‘I attempt to stab toward your upper torso, aiming for your chest,’ and then let the other person react.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it’s using out-of-character information like the wiki that my character hasn’t learned in-character, which gives an unfair advantage and breaks immersion. Example: if I read about Necromancy on the wiki, my character wouldn’t suddenly know what it is without learning it through roleplay first, or if someone tells me OOC that a person will betray me, I can’t have my character preemptively attack them without an in-character reason.

Character Name: Finn Alder
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 24
Physical Description: About 6’1” and broad-shouldered at around 185 lbs. He has brown hair kept short and dark hazel eyes. He wears an apron when working with patched pants
Roleplay Scenario:

“Oh—sorry.” Finn ducks under the tent flap, wiping damp swamp air off his face with the back of his sleeve. The candles hanging in the air make him freeze for half a breath, but he forces himself to step forward anyway.

He lowers himself onto the cushion carefully, like it might bite, and keeps his hands where she can see them. “Finn Alder,” he says, voice steady but polite. “I’m not here to cause trouble.”

He glances back toward the shacks outside, then meets her eyes again. “I came looking for work. An apprenticeship. I can fix simple tools, patch carts, keep a forge clean—whatever someone needs done. I’m no master, but I learn fast and I don’t shy from hard labor.”

A faint frown crosses his face. “Back home, there wasn’t much left after a bad season. I left before I became another mouth nobody could afford.” He hesitates, then adds honestly, “And I’ve heard this place… has people who know things. People you don’t find in neat towns.”

Finn shifts, uncomfortable under her stare. “But you saying you expected me?” He swallows. “Either you’ve mistaken me for someone else, or I’ve stepped into a story I don’t understand yet.”
