In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming can be avoided by knowing the limits of what your OC can do. For example (using D&D stats here) if you are any race other than an elf, you cannot move over 30 ft unless you use a dash. It is somewhat similar here as one would be essentially making unrealistic feats or abilities. Thus knowing your OCs limits and abiding by them is a great way to avoid powergaming. Another good way to avoid powergaming is by using syntax in your sentences that avoids forcing the other person's hand. For example, if my character was trying to sweep someone's leg from under them, I would say "I quickly shift my body weight and attempt to kick your leg.", this sentence leaves enough room for the other person to come up with a good and reasonable response to my action, encouraging fair play. It is also good manners to ask for PTK or PTI (permission to kill or permission to injure) respectively before attacking another player in order to not permanently harm someone's valuable OC.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is one of the most grievous sins in roleplay. Metagaming essentially gives a player knowledge that the character itself would not know, thus giving the player an advantage. It totally ruins roleplay as the player with the metagamed information would then be able to "succeed" or "win" the roleplayed conflict.

Character Name: Laelon Sunstrider
Character Race: Elf
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 19
Physical Description: Gold colored hair
Pale skin
Deep green eyes
Stands at 6'1"
Weighs almost 240 pounds
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Laelon moves towards the cushion, glancing at it. "You won't attack me will you?". He tilts his head slightly.  "Well, it's a long story...." He sits down on the cushion, the sword on his hip clinking on the ground and begins telling her. "I was born in a small town with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and information. At an early age I found a unique love for fire, it has this...this way of consuming freely all things in it's path.". His begins to study the hag, his green eyes piercing through her visage, scanning for threats. "I've been traveling for some time now...yet I don't think anyone but my friends know I was coming this way....

"  He closes his palms, sweat dripping from his brow. "Now how did you know I was coming?".

Changed Status to Under Review

Hi there! Your application has been put on pending as there are changes that need to be made before you can be accepted. See below.

  • Roleplay Sample
    • Your character may not have knowledge of magic when applying. They are free to learn once you are accepted onto the server, but up until now your character has been an npc. You have all the time in the world to learn cool things when on the server.
    • Perhaps change the part of being a self taught fire evocationist to aspiring to be such.

If you do not make these changes within 48 hours,  you will be denied. When you are finished, please message me on Discord @tarajessto let me know, or if you don’t have Discord, send me a forum message, and please do ask if you have any questions.
