How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using outside information for an unfair advantage in roleplay; the result is a semi-omniscient character, and unless it is something that character should be able to do, it goes against the spirit of the game.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is a method of making roleplay unfair by means of eliminating the choices available during play, such that the character is semi-omnipotent and can enact their will without consent of the affected player.
