    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is the act of using information in-character that was not obtained via roleplay. An example of this would be if someone were to read a person’s character profile to discover their greatest fear, and then use that fear in roleplay on that character, even though your character never uncovered this information them self.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming, in improv terms, is akin to “jumping the shark”. It is when an action is unrealistic either due to being unreasonably powerful or just straight up impossible given the circumstances of the characters involved. An example of this could be if a character were to drink from a poisoned cup, only to ignore the effects claiming that they are immune to this very specific poision due to a rare genetic condition that they have never bothered to mention before this event. This is highly unlikely, unrealistic in most situations, and is simply a way of avoiding repercussions.

Morinir stepped onto the docks in good spirits at having a smooth trip in his preferred form of transportation. Despite being from a city, this one was like nothing he had ever seen before. He set his eyes on the market, excited to see what the local craftsmen might be displaying on their tables before being greeted by the gentleman. He smiled patiently at the stranger before speaking, “Oh why thank you. I’m simply here to appreciate the craftsmanship of the locals….do you suppose any would be interested in hiring an apprentice?”
