In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is when a player uses knowledge in roleplay that they have gained from out of character.

Sometime ago in Atlas, my parents, Luis Lettelwood and Gualio Lettelwood, were packing up frantically and they looked very frightened at the time. After they have brought their small luggage into the living room they sit my sister and me on the floor next to each other. They look at us and say, “We need to leave now, and you two do not have time to pack.” Felt like a blink to me, then the next thing I know is that we are next to this camel that is about to take us to Arcas. I look up to see my mother and father looking back and forth and the both of us. At the time, I am seven and my sister is ten. The next words out of my fathers mouth, terrified me forever. He says “Only one of you can fit on the carrage and the other has to fit in that box.” They all look at me since I am the smallest and they laid me in the box with a green cloak, food and water, and a gold necklace that has their initials engraved into it. They look say their goodbyes and they gave me a piece  of paper that says that I need to meet them in the center of the Federation of Sutica when I arrive at the place. This is the last time I saw my family and will ever see them again. After restless days and nights, I hit the shore of Sutica  and after being laying down for so long, I kick the top of the crate off and I take the cloak and the necklace and I take a moment to look at the architecture, and I am blown away by all the marble and terracotta. After being there for a minute, I try to find my way to the center of Sutica. When I don’t spot them when I get there I quickly run to the nearest person and ask if they know who my parents are, and they replied with a nod and their reaction told me that this was not good. I ask them where, and they reply with “They were looking for you and we have not seen them since.” After that, I look down and I know they are still alive somewhere, but I will find them, and I will bring them home. I look up and say thank you and I walk around exploring the new place and I enjoy it here so I decided I should just get to know this place more and try something new.

They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

"Oh, I just, uh…" The traveler stutters, tensing up. They eye the crone, then back outside the shack. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…

A good, fairly solid start to an application. There are only a few minor pieces of feedback I’d like to give.

  • LOTCs main issue with powergaming is power-emoting, players not using the rolling system within things like combat RP and generally being unfair. As long as you are aware of this, then that is fine.
  • The only real reference to the lore you have made is the name of the map- Arcas. With a character being eighteen, he has no doubt lived in certain cities and nations, seen various races. The story itself is fine, even though being an “orphan” through being abandoned is a tad cliche. And so, I ask you add a few more pieces of lore into your story.
    • [Nations] is the page to begin on, if you are struggling to find information. This page is for Atlas, so will only help you for the time before we transitioned to Arcas.
    • [Nations] is the page to be on, for Arcas related nations.
  • Finally, please alter  your interesting facts. Keep in mind that these are supposed to be traits- things like physical injuries, mental impairments (being strong, being half blind, those sorts of things) and not likes or dislikes.
    • Your first one, his love for poetry, is more of a like.

Please, make your changes in your own time! Any questions, feel free to PM me on the forums or on discord, Laurelin#0797

And, feel free to join us on the new player discord too: https://discord.gg/eySYjqw

Thank you for your edits.

  • When we came to the new map, we didn’t land in Sutica- we all started in the same place, but as long as you are aware of that- I’m happy to let you in. You’ll no doubt pick up pieces of lore as you go, and further figure out the time line- I know it can be very difficult and even the oldest of us can sometimes struggle to keep up.
    • My suggestion is to just learn from playing. You can learn as you go, and you are welcome to the new player discord which I linked in my above post if you need any other help.

Remeber the rules, have fun, make friends, and we’ll see you soon.
