How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I avoid powergaming by always allowing other people a chance to react to what my character is doing. I consciously make an effort to avoid emoting something like my character is able to complete the task unless there is no way for another character to stop said actions (like taking a sip of tea or flipping a page in a book). Even when I am leaving rooms or areas with people in them in roleplay, I do try to linger by the doorway to allow others to respond or stop my character if wanted/needed.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay by giving other characters an unfair advantage. For example, if a character of someone you know if being robbed by bandits, your character should not be conveniently in the city closest and conveniently heading down that road with your group full of mercenaries. It demotivates the bandits and gives the player initially robbed an unfair advantage above them.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Leyulin blinks once, twice, before a bright smile dances across her lips. With little to no hesitation she scrambles to sit down on the cushion, trying to keep some modicum of grace as she does so.

"Well- where do I even start with this sort of thing? Oh- my name! Right!" She laughs for a moment, shaking her head afterwards and going straight back to storytelling. "My name is Leyulin Wynrie. My parents grew up on Nor'Asath back on Almaris- I was born there too. We were forced to move here after the Mori invasion though pretty much everyone was. For the most part I've spent a lot of my life wandering around with my parents. They're both bards- my mother taught me the flute you know- and they'd make money by playing in various inns that we'd stay in. They studied in the old bard college in Nor'Asath, so they're pretty good at what they do. What I'm doing now is what I've grown up doing, but without my parents lingering over my shoulder the whole time. I love them- I really do- but I want that sort of independence y'know? I want to be able to spread joy and various other emotions through my own music, just like they did." She gives a couple of enthusiastic nods, confirming that she's done rambling and allowing the hag room to speak if she wished.
