Jack peeks out from his cabin window, peering curiously at the massive city ahead. He sits idly, leaning casually against the wall, puffing tobacco out from the window. He burrows his eyes, as though focused on someone or something towards the docks. “Welcome!”, a distant shout can be heard, spoken by an exceptionally dressed and unusually outspoken man. Jack can only make out a few words, but can gather from the man’s gestures and inquisitive tone (however muttered), that he is either looking to sell something, or is offering a job. The disembarking recipients to this man’s hospitality look visibly taken aback. Jack smirks at the general levity, and takes a moment to observe the city landscape once more, before emptying his pipe into the sea and slipping it into his daypack. Jack gathers his belongings- slinging his daypack across his right shoulder and carrying his work tools in his left hand. He slowly opens the door to his cabin and peers out into the ship hallway. “Empty” he mutters- the floor is quiet unlike a few minutes prior where the halls were filled with the chatter and commotion of a variety of travelers, all hastily looking to leave the cramped ship. Jack swiftly navigates the hallway, passively peering into each open cabin door, habitually searching for any “lost” items.
As Jack exits the ship, he finds the exceptionally dressed man nearby. Jack attempts to maintain a low profile as he walks into the bazaar. As Jack moves beyond what he calculated would be the “safety threshold”, he turns to peer at the man- only to lock eyes with him before quickly pacing towards Jack. Jack darts forward in a panic and begins increasing his cadence, but its too late. Almost immediately, the man exclaims “WELCOME!”- by now only ten feet away. Jack rolls his eyes and sighs as he turns to face the man. He raises his brow, feigning interest to the man’s arrival and dismissively responds “Yah-yah. Right! Thank you!”, while pacing backwards into the bazaar. The man continues, “what brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspiration to elevate your place in society?”. Jack halts, his face bewildered that the man wasn’t trying to sell anything and didn’t appear to be offering work. He thinks a moment while slowly pacing backwards. “All o’it. I think”, he says with a smirk, before offering the man a dismissive nod before turning and resuming his travel into the city.
