Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

“Ah, so ye want ta hear about ol’ Bjorn Ahlgren, eh? Well, pull up a chair before me knees give out, and pour me an ale while yer at it. Now, I weren’t born tall — in fact, I’m convinced me ma dropped me on me head an’ I just… grew outwards instead o’ upwards. Sadly, I didn’t have her long. A cave-in took both me parents when I was but a beardling. Some say that’s tragic — I say it just meant I had the whole pantry to meself!

The clan raised me, aye, but not without complainin’ about how much I ate. They thought I’d be a miner or a smith like the rest — hah! Turns out, Bjorn’s real talent is tellin’ stories, eatin’ pies, and convincin’ folk to buy me drinks. Now I’m a grandpa, which just means I’ve got an excuse to nap whenever I like and repeat the same tale three times without anyone interruptin’.

So there ye have it — a short, fat dwarf who lost his parents young, but gained a belly, a laugh, and more grandkids than I can remember the names of. And if ye say that sounds sad, I’ll bonk ye with me walking stick an’ prove it’s still good for somethin’ besides holdin’ me up!”
