How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Use of external/out-of-character knowledge in-character with no way or reason for the persona to have said information. Example: OOC, Bob tells his friend John he's getting dabbed on by orcs outside Krugmar, so John decides to drag his decked-out persona from Haelun'or to save him. The kicker? These two personas have never interacted once in their lives.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Abuse of roleplay though actions/emotes that may remove agency from another player, display ignorance of or break established rules/lore, or have unrealistic or unfair consequences. Example: 'Nevil calls down a giant rock from the sky and flattens Providence, erasing the Holy Orenian Empire's finest city completely.' The kicker? The biggest rock Nevil had ever summoned prior was the size of a pebble.
