Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
The elf's gaze swept across the tent's interior, as if questioning how well kept the place really was. Nonetheless, she dipped her head at the older woman and did as had been instructed - taking herself to sit on the cushion closest to the wall. Enakai placed her hands on her lap as she examined the hag. A moment's hesitation before she spoke, at long last.
"I was born in a small town, more-so a fishing village if we're being fully honest. My father was absent when I had arrived into the world, but he was no longer important after that. My mother, Sebzae, had been the one to raise me solely on her own." Enakai paused for a moment, her gaze darting to the side - as if she had heard something. Whatever it was had caused her to lower her tone ever so slightly.
"My years growing up were relatively normal. Learning how to take care of myself, assist the others when I could, and living off the land we had. A simple life without much else to worry about other than the occasional raid. However, when around a decade had passed, Mother decided it would be a good time to move beyond - into the city, no less. Apparently, she had managed to secure herself a better paying position than what we had previously. At the age I was, I had no qualms of arguing against it. Besides, who could say no to more money?" Enakai let out a small laugh, before she continued. "My years there were definitely rough starting out, but I managed to keep pushing regardless of what had been handed to me. Eventually we had enough to move into a decent home, around when I was 17, but I wasn't settling down for too long after. Not like I could move out right away though, so I took on what I could to gain my own money." Yet another pause as a breath was taken in, then she persisted - much like how she claimed to have done throughout her own life.
"It took me a few years to get what I could to live comfortably, but when I had? I decided to take a ship off of the mainland and move elsewhere. Not that I had any idea of where until I had questioned too late into the journey. Yet there was a bit of a detour, and we ended up here. Well, more so I did. Not sure of the others." The woman rolled her shoulders some, sighing. "That's my story. Not the full thing yet, as it hasn't been completed of course, but enough up to today." Enakai shoved herself up to her feet upon the last few words, but she didn't move. Not yet.
