Rein was born in the Forested Highlands and into a small family; Her father, a Highlander, her mother, a Heartlander who had run off, and her older brother, Bear. They lived in a small camp that lived off the forest with a few other families. Her childhood was full of little adventures, daily farm-chores, and playing with her friends. There was truly nothing wrong with the world back then, everything was so peaceful. However, one night, her mother awoke her suddenly and urged her to run--a fire had begun to spread in the forest. "Run," her mother instructed, "Your brother will be close behind you, and your father and I will meet you and Bear at the edge of the forest and across the river. Please, go now!" But she never saw her parents again. Or her brother Bear. She waited by the river for days, moons, almost an entire season before moving on. She had checked the remains of her camp and found nothing but a few small pieces of evidence of life. She finally settled in the Swaymoors, finding comfort in the open land--unburdened by trees and reminders of what used to be. Every sunrise she awakes to look out at the horizon, hoping, perhaps, for her family to have found her.
