In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming you should limit yourself and your characters abilities to a reasonable amount. If you're good at one thing you should be mediocre at another, you have to understand that people mostly only specialize in one skill and they hone that to perfection, being able to perfect multiple different skills is unreasonable especially depending on your characters age. Along with this you should understand that you aren't 'God' and cant always win every fight or situation, there are times where you'll lose and there are situations you'll win.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay in many different way. One way is enabling one side or party to have unfair knowledge about a situations and using that to their advantage heavily changing the impact and outcome of a scenario. Along with this it just makes the overall roleplay boring for the metagamer and frustrating for the victim; with prior knowledge and using things you shouldn't know in game to your advantage it makes the situation boring and unchallenging. And its frustrating to be on the other side of it since you've worked towards something and possibly have it stripped away because somebody played unfairly.

Character Name: Alesteir Velaryon
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 24
Physical Description: Alesteir; was a tall man and decently built guy. His red hair stood out the most along with his emerald green eyes.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Alesteir's eyes wandered the room examining the lost cabin he had stumbled across. Eventually his emerald eyes met the gaze of the hag; he examined her: her stature, body type, hair, eyes, remembering what she looked like. Afterall it's the first person he's seen in a while. Eventually her demand had snapped into his brain; quickly responded to her, out of politeness. "My story.. It's a long story." He looked down at his own raggedy clothes trying to dust himself off a bit. "My name's Alesteir, I was coming here on a ship with my family when we were attacked by some large ship." The male paused.. his eyes glared down at the floor, his chin dropping down. "Our ship with our riches were lost. Destroyed. I was barely able to get to shore on a debris of the ship." His eyes shot up, a new fire had lit up, a new resolve for power. "I'll get my riches back and give payback where payback is due. My first goal.. Is to find my family." With that he brush the hair out of his eyes, Alesteir stood tall before the old hag. It was clear more than ever, he was determined to get back what he once lost. Looking at a jacket hanging on a hook near the door, he snatched it off before turning his heels. His hand lifted up to give the lady a wave before opening the door and leaving back from where he came from. The only question was. . Would he succeed in his plan? Is his resolve strong enough to preserver? And how far will he make it on his journey.
