You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
I sit, feeling the weight of the damp, heavy air pressing in around me, my voice quiet and measured.
"I was raised by those who know only shadows. My mother, a fierce leader, taught me our ways—the resilience needed to survive. But I struggled to find my place. I watched as people I cared for turned against each other, drawn into conflicts I couldn’t understand. I wanted something different. I wanted peace. But peace doesn’t come easily in a world like ours. I was left behind, drifting, caught between the path I was born into and the life I wanted.”
I pause, my gaze distant, memories of all the places I’ve been lingering in my mind.
“Now, wherever I go, it feels like the past clings to me. I am a dark elf, wandering without purpose, searching for something I’ve never quite found. Maybe this town is just another stop, another place to pass through. Or maybe… maybe it’s my last chance to find what I’ve been searching for—a place to call home and people who might accept me as I am.”
