Henrik was born in a village in the hinterland of what would become Presa de Madera. At a young age, his honourable father was slain by a bandit who attempted to rob the family household. Raised thereafter by his mother, Henrik learned from an early age the importance of self-sufficiency and diplomacy. While he would grow to be physically well-built, he was taught the effectiveness of the pen over the sword. Otherwise, his upbringing could be characterised as quite mundane. As the eldest man in the house, he took up the duties of physical work after his father's death, with farming and combat training being his two most common time sinks. As he witnessed the rise of Presa de Madera, he came to love the city as it signified the strong work ethic of the Heartlanders and would eventually leave his town to begin a new life in the city. In the typical form of a Heartlander, he has an overriding drive to put the skills he learned from a young age into practice, and to rise to greatness without violence, and to honour the memory of his father by ensuring the rule of law by any means necessary. Because of his upbringing, he has a distaste for weapons but would seek to hold one in the case that all other avenues of conflict resolution fail. Henrik ultimately seeks to improve his knowledge, as it comes hand-in-hand with diplomacy.
