Kolatu was born an only child in a small village in a thick forest full of inhabitants from several races, but he has no recollection of where exactly it was. His parents were farmers and didn't make much money but there life was rich with love, focusing all their care and attention on their one child. His early life was great, he was kept fed and well looked after until around age 5 when his family began to move to avoid an incoming disease. He doesn't know much about the disease, only remembering his Father's repeated plea to his mother to move south, but he survived long enough to reach a small village in western Aegrothond before his travelled, ageing, weak parents began showing signs of sickness. Kolatu understands that his parents died shortly after their arrival and he was taken in by local caring Wood Elves who kept him clothed and fed, often telling him he was a special child and a beam of hope for an otherwise ordinary village. The locals who raised him believe he is special for avoiding the disease that killed his parents, but Kolatu believes he was just lucky. He often wonders if he used all of his luck avoiding the disease and doesn't have any left. When he was 15, the locals decided that having lived there for a decade, he should pull his weight, so they assigned him to look after the animals of the village when their owners were out hunting or foraging. Having met very few people in his formative years and having very little experience doing anything, he became obsessed with the idea that he was a dull, boring soul with no purpose in life. Upon turning 18, Kolatu decided it was time to kick his pessimistic thoughts aside and focus on his adventurous ambition to do something big with his life. Armed with a desire to learn and explore and very little else, he asked the locals to send him in the direction of the nearest city.

The man before Kolatu was the first to talk directly to him in over two days of travelling. This startled the young Elf, causing him to let out a shy "me?" to the gentlemen. The man gave an anticipatory nod in the Elf's direction, forcing Kolatu to explain himself.

"Adventure! Definitely that one! I want to explore the whole world and I figured this would be a good place to start. Where do I go to learn about this fantastic place?"
