One summer morning, as Kostaltyn was feeding his few animals, he noticed something unusual. One of his chickens, the craftiest of the entire flock, broke free from the pen and began to flee towards the forest. Not wanting to lose such a valuable bird, Kostaltyn gave chase. He ran through the fields until finally, after a long pursuit, he managed to catch it.

Exhausted but satisfied, he sat on the grass and looked at the chicken. “Got you,” he said with a smile, holding the bird in his hands. For Kostaltyn, catching this chicken was a small triumph in his everyday life full of hardships. It might not have been a grand achievement, but for him, it symbolized perseverance and determination.

When he returned to his cottage with the chicken under his arm, he saw something horrifying. His mother lay dead on the ground, and standing over her was a witch, who was just transforming from the chicken into her true form. Her sinister laughter echoed through the small cottage.
