In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Avoiding powergaming in roleplay can be done by only speaking for your own character and their actions, and stopping whenever those actions directly impact another character. For example, I could say my character attempts to hide, but I couldn't say that they disappear from another character's sight unilaterally. The other important part of powergaming to avoid is to not overstate what is possible for your character. I would avoid this by making sure that my characters have flaws and don't overstep their role as just one part of a broader world.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts roleplay by allowing characters to act on information they would have no way of knowing. This can take people out of the roleplay and result in out of character arguments and frustrations about fairness. As a long time ttrpg GM and player, I am very familiar with the idea of keeping meta knowledge segmented from character knowledge, and actively enjoy doing so because making imperfect choices drives interesting stories more often than not.

Character Name: Nina Venko
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 21
Physical Description: 5'9", 150lbs
dirty blonde hair
hazel green eyes
practical traveling clothes, grey shirt, belt, green skirt, worn boots
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Nina hesitates a moment, looking down at her muddy boots, before she gingerly takes a seat. "Um, just a quick question first. How have you been expecting me? I only decided to come this way this morning." As the silence hangs, Nina becomes visibly uncomfortable. "Okay, you don't need to tell me I suppose. I'm here looking for my family. The story before that is not too interesting, we lived in a remote forest in Aevos far from any major settlements." Nina's face draws into a frown and the silence fills the tent yet again. "Leaving Aevos wasn't exactly orderly, and we got separated. You said you expected me, do you know anything about what happened to them?"  A glimmer of hope can be seen in Nina's eyes, but she doesn't seem to dare let it grow into anything greater than that.
