Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Expecting me?" he flashes a barely noticeable squint, focusing his gaze in the eyes of the old woman. He cant read her intent yet he feels compelled to respond hastily.
"I've been wandering these lands for a while now absorbing what knowledge I can from its people and wildlife. I was raised in a kind of dark isolation for many years and when I escaped that life I--"
He pauses and lowers his head, contemplating all that he's been through. He raises his head again and the old woman smiles. "Go on..." she says.
He hesitates... "I felt a strong connection to this outside world. And I feel..." another brief hesitation... He squints again but this time with a sense of strength and determination. "I feel like something is calling me here. A greater purpose."
His hesitation fades. "I want to find that purpose. Will you help me?"
The old woman smiles again..."Come with me" she says and as he follows her out of the tent and into the light he feels a strong sense of both burden and responsibility. This is the beginning of his story.
