In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Using your actual-living-physical-meat-space brain's thoughts and knowledge to supplement for your character's ignorance. I know IRL that Billy Bob is in a tavern because they were talking about it in Discord, but my character Moriaen wouldn't know because he's too busy being lost in the woods. If Moriaen somehow knew and went to him, that's metagaming.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: There's actually a few versions I know and am used to seeing.
Godmodding: Dictating what happens to yours and others characters without consent. Like in the example you all gave; "Bob crushes your skull with his fist!" or "Bob dodges your attack and laughs at you."
Powergaming: It's not as -obvious- as godmodding, but in spirit it is. The 'Everything Proof Shield', so to speak.
    Status: Accepted

Moriaen was born in a far away land of highlands and steppes, where the air was dry and the heat intense. The villages were closeknit and tribalism was the unifying factor. His mother was one of these natives to the land, a well standing woman. His father, however, was a stranger. Unlike the dark skin and tight curled hair of those around him, Moriaen's father was pale skinned like the clouds at dusk, and he had long, flowing fiery red hair. An oddity in these lands.

The father came to stay with the tribe and the mother. Moriaen was born soon after, but as he grew he was to be the strange one in the village. This was not for his looks (for he was not too far off from those around him, other than his slightly paler complexation and blue eyes). Moriaen was considered odd from the rest of the children his age due to his mannerisms and eccentricities.

Moriaen was enchanted by the tales his father told him. He heard of the many other realms and legends around the world, for his father was a 'traveling scholar'. As it was explained to Moriaen, that means he was a very well learned man that kept stories in his head and on parchment. But no stories caught his heart more than those of the various knightly orders of Haense.

When the other children wanted to play akukulu, he would want to pretend to be slaying a dragon. When his friends wanted to go practice hunting, he'd attempt to ride the goats or pigs as if they were his steeds and chase down the prey.

As he grew older, Moriaen grew discontent with his role in the village. He felt as if he needed to go see the legends in life  and become one of them. His father and mother attempted to talk him out of it, but he insisted that this was what he wanted. Unwilling to squash his dreams, his father gave him directions, advice, and helped him pack for the long trip.

With a loving hug from his parents and a surprisingly touching farewell celebration from the village, Moriaen set off over hill and dale, crossing river and creek,  all to achieve his dream.

((How appropriate that the prompt works with my biography!))

Moriaen stepped off the boat, looking around at the monumental city with wide-eyed wonderment. His mouth was agape, making him look all the more... the tourist. He blinked back to reality as he was approached by the well-dressed man.

"Ah!" He spoke, startled but excited, and his accent coming through. "H-hello! Yes! I came to enter the service of one of the orders!" He recalled the mannerisms his father taught him, about how to greet others in these regions. Moriaen reached out his hand for a shake. It was a bit awkward, being slightly too far out and too high. "It is my very, very good pleasure to meet you, good sir!"

Hi! As you can see, your application has been accepted! Well done on your application! So now, I welcome you to the wonderful community of LotC!

  • The results of dying in roleplay are somewhat depending on what you want to do and how/when you die. The only way you are forced to permanently kill a character is if you agree to a pk-clause event from a Story Team Staff Member, or a verdict from a mod or admin make you perma kill your character. Other than that, if you are killed in roleplay, you can continue to roleplay the same character if you wish, but your character will have no memory of dying, or how they died, and won't remember anything thirty minutes of real life time before their deaths. When their character's die in roleplay, but they want to continue roleplaying the same character, some people just roleplay their character having injuries or something of the sort! I hope this helped explain it a bit, they can be confusing at times, so if you have any more questions about it or need further explanations, please feel free to message me over the forums here or over discord!
