Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

“I… didn’t expect to be known here.”
Emrick lowers himself onto the cushion she gestures toward, his posture stiff but respectful.
“I’m just passing through. Been travelling for weeks, looking to honor a promise. My family’s legacy, you know? Never thought I’d end up in a place like this.”
He glances around the tent, trying not to let the eerie atmosphere unnerve him.
“But… I suppose if you’ve been expecting me, then maybe I’m meant to be here.”
He locks eyes with her, his expression a mix of curiosity and guarded caution.
“What is it you know about me?”
Backstory:
Emrick was born in a quiet hamlet. His parents were bakers and farmers, known for their hearty loaves and sweet honey cakes, staples that brought a small but steady stream of travelers to their home. Tragedy struck when a rogue band of raiders swept through the region, leaving the village in ruins and claiming the lives of Emrick's parents.
Now orphaned, Emrick has resolved to honor his family’s legacy. With little more than the clothes on his back, a cherished family recipe book, and a few coins, he has set out to rebuild the Hearthspring name. His dream is to establish a bakery and farm that serves not only bread but a sense of home to those in need, embodying the warmth and kindness his parents were known for!
