In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is when a player knows out of character information and uses it in character. Example: A player finds out another player's location in-game, they use it in character to find the other person's character.

In her younger years, she had lived with her father and mother in a small village. They weren't the wealthiest, but they had a roof over their heads. Alvah was a troubled child, and still remains that way. She had been sent to an orphanage due to her odd behaviours towards other neighbouring villagers and even towards her parent guardians. About the orphanage...she didn't react well with that at such a young age either, and acted out towards the caretakers and children there. She was forcefully locked into a room, until, long story short, she had figured and learned a way to get out and escape. Alvah stumbled into a large city with many people. She had became friends with a few of them, one had given her the name Patchwork. She liked the name. Soon enough, her odd behaviours took over her again, making these new friends of hers scared of her, drifting away leaving her in the dust. All this wandering around in the wilderness, killing animals for the joy and for the food, though Alvah was alone. Maybe this was meant to be for her.

She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

"Oh, I just, uh…" The traveler stutters, tensing up. They eye the crone, then back outside the shack. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…
