In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid powergaming by ensuring every action I take gives other players a chance to respond or resist and by playing my character within their actual abilities, not as someone unbeatable or all-powerful.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid metagaming by always separating what I know as a player from what my character knows in the world

Character Name: bram forlow
Character Race: Highlander
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 20
Physical Description: Bram is 5’10”, broad-shouldered but not bulky. His posture is humble and unassuming. He has scruffy brown hair with lighter sun-faded streaks
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example: (delete this)

Bram hesitates at the entrance, eyes flicking over the worn tent flap before stepping inside. His boots squelch with wet moss, leaving a muddy trail behind. The hag’s voice catches him off guard, and for a moment, he just blinks.

He doesn’t sit. Not yet. His eyes scan the room—not out of suspicion, but because he’s unsure what’s expected of him. “Uh… me?” he mutters, brushing rainwater off his scarf. “I—I ain’t got much story worth tellin’, ma’am.”

He shifts on his feet, awkward. “I lost someone. Someone who mattered. Been walkin’ ever since, I guess. Tryin’ to find somethin’—someone—to serve. Not ‘cause I’m told to, but… ‘cause it feels right. That’s all.”

Finally, he sits—on the floor, not the cushion. “If you’ve got a job, I’ll take it. If you don’t, I’ll still help carry wood or dig trenches. Just don’t send me away.”

His voice steadies. “I ain’t the smartest. Or the strongest. But I don’t quit. And I don’t betray.”
