In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I normally place myself in my character's shoes and think, "What would they do, and what CAN they do?" If it is unrealistic, then I through the thought out of my mind. I understand my characters are not gods, so therefore I don't power game in general.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I always put myself in the mindset of my characters (being an avid DND player & DM). This allows me to stop and think about what I know, and what THEY know. This allows me to create separation between my character's knowledge and my own, which I don't act upon info if my character doesn't know it as well.

Character Name: Gerald Einsen
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 31
Physical Description: Einsen is a large (5'11 to be exact), muscular farmer. He has pale green eyes, brownish-red hair, weighs about 220, and wears normal/medival clothes.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Einsen sits down with a loud crack as his back pops. He states "Oh, my story? That's a long but simple one to tell, now let me collect my thoughts for a moment." Einsen furrows his brow intensely, showing the years of work on his wrinkled face. He starts "Well, hmmm, humph... Ah! That's right! It all started when I was but a wee lad. My family was a poor one, living in the slums of a long forgotten part of the kingdom. My mother was a beggar, and my father was a thief. We lived a hard life we did, that was until my father was caught red-handed by the guards. They found me and my mother half-starved to death, and so they arrested my father, sent my mother to an infirmary, and brought me to a new family that would take care of me right." Einsen stops to think about what to say next, furrowing his brow further, almost reaching his eyes at this point. Einsen continues "Ah! After that I was raised by a family of farmers. I had a big brother who eventually joined the guard, and a sister who got married off. I chose to continue the new family's tradition of farming! Ever since I picked up my first hoe I have been an excellent farmer, and I find it quite peaceful. Someday, a man came to me and told me there was treasure of in this marshland, so here I am, looking for this supposed treasure to help me buy a new set of farming equipment!" Einsen finishes with a large smile on his face, like a toddler who just received a sweet.
