You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example:For a moment everything turns quiet…the only sounds that could be heard were the whistle of the wind and the movement of the trees. Suddenly though, a story begins to be told.”It is a story of richness and poorness and of life and death” Erëndir says struggling to breathe, “and it all begins in a prosperous and wonderful land filled with trees and joy. There I was born, near the streams and forests of that place. I can still feel the purity of the crystal waters and the calm of the quiet forests. My whole childhood I thought of adventure and leaving home to visit distant lands, but I didn’t know at that time that my life would completely change.” The elf stopped for a bit to breathe and then he continued the story:” It was a warm afternoon and I was playing with my brothers among the trees, when suddenly a dark vale covered the whole forest. Rumbles. Rumbles could be heard from everywhere. Luckily I managed escape that place and managed to return to my parents, but it was already too late. They were gone.. they went into the forest t-to save my b-brothers. And so I was left alone. My whole family had been taken by the forces of evil covering the once beautiful and wonderous forest. I was lonely. I didn’t have anybody. I…was lost.”
”But where is the happy ending…where is the-the light at the end of the tunnel?”, the old lady said.“Sadly the light has yet to appear in my soul. Of course, I got some comfort coming to this place from my homeland and having the new found will to discover forests filled with wonder and to see the true face of nature, but nothing will ever fill the void in my heart from losing my beloved ones.” the sad one said with a trembling voice. There was utter silence. Soundlessness filled the room and all that could be heard were the heartbeats of an old lady and a lonely wood elf. “Since my kin’s coming to these lands, all I’ve been doing is travelling and trying to find the one thing that would truly give me happiness”, Erëndir explained, breaking the silence. The old lady looked at him with pity in her eyes and said:”From all my heart I hope that you’ll find what you’re looking for, you lost soul.”
