Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Aldric pushes the flap of the tent aside and ducks in, wiping a bit of swamp water from his sleeve. The smell in the place makes him wrinkle his nose. Rot, wet moss… the whole town seems soaked in it.
The floating candles catch his eye first. He squints up at them for a moment before looking back to the old woman.
“Expecting me?” he asks, a little confused.
He lowers himself onto the cushion, setting his pack down with a soft thud. A hammer handle sticks out from the top along with a few other tools.
“Aldric Thornwell,” he says after a moment. “Builder, mostly. I travel around fixing things. Walls, roofs, docks… whatever people are paying for.” He gives a small shrug. “Trade a bit too when I’ve got space in the wagon.”
For a second he glances back toward the entrance of the tent, where the dim swamp town sits outside in the fog.
“Honestly I just followed the road here. Was hoping to find dry ground and maybe some work.” He looks back at the hag, brow slightly furrowed. “But if you’ve been expecting me… sounds like you know something I don’t.”
