    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is when a character evokes information that they got by out of character means in roleplay to further their own ends. This information is something that the player would know, but not their character. This kind of information can be damaging because it can be maliciously used in roleplay to bring about consequences.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: In combat situations, or otherwise contexts that require adversity between characters, roleplay must proceed with good faith. When someone forces roleplay actions onto the people that they are clashing with, be it emoting on their behalf, or assuming that an attack instantly hits, they are powergaming, because they are abusing the good faith of their roleplaying partner.

Lisbet, stepping off from the ship that carried her to this port would hold her sword close, being in a foreign land. She was tailing the wine merchant that she was supposed to guard, yet this land seemed alien and foreign. She sighed a sigh of relief as a local man greeted the party. Perhaps they could glean information from this man on where to sell their cargo. "Thank you for your welcome, friend! We bring cargo. Good quality wine, and this is why we are in the city. Perhaps you would be interested in buying? Or could you point us towards a place where we can sell? You seem like a man who would enjoy wine, by your dress!"
