She got off the boat and looked at the many people milling around and selling their wares. 'Is this the city? It's bigger than I imagined...How am I going to find anything?' she thought as she stared up the large fortified buildings. She began to wander around looking at the various objects within the stalls, "A pretty necklace for the lady?" an old man leered at her as he held a golden chain filled with jewels, Mar'i uncomfortable with the attention quickly declines and tries to walk away before he grabs her hand, "Come on, you would look even more beautiful with it on."  "Um, like I said no thank you," she snatches her hand away and turns around and begins to walk away from the small crowd thats, but stops herself as she catches him yell, "tsk I tried giving her compliment and she can't even accept it, considering her looks she was probably abandoned as kid 'cause she clearly has no respect." The nearby men begin laughing an catcalling her, she quickly turns back to confront the men but the crowd becomes silent. Feeling a new presence behind her, turns around and sees a well-dressed gentleman with two guards behind him.

He walks forward to stand directly in front of Mar'i and boisterously states, "Ahhh, you don't look familiar, are welcomes to be in order?" Mar'i unsure of the situation continues to look at him quietly. "Do you not speak? Do you not understand what I'm saying? From your appearance you seem to be a Farfolk, yes?" The old man at the stall quickly jumps in  and yells, "My lord do not let her fool you, she speaks quite well for her kind".

"Her kind?" the gentleman asks innocently, "Yes, my lord. Not many of her type can speak the way she does", the old man proudly states this with a smile that would seem as though he won a prize. There was a sudden chill in the air as the gentleman's eyes grew fierce. It held an unbridled rage that seemed like it was barely contained. "My good sir, whilst you work in my market I suggest you leave your personal opinions of the different races within the kingdom at home. Am I clear?" The old man began quivering before giving a sharp nod. "Good, now you little girl what's your name?", Mar'i quickly answering before she invoke his wrath any more than she had, "Mar'i? What an uncommon name, what brings you to the city?" "I-" "Nevermind that, so long as you're here, do try not to cause anymore trouble than you have, you're interrupting my business." The gentleman, abruptly turns away, like the passing wind, it barely seemed as he was there as the market once again became busy as things went back to normal.

Mar'i still stunned in her place by the whole encounter watched the retreating back of the gentleman until he disappeared into the crowd, until she was bumped into a girl who seemed older than her, an elf. "Woah sleeping beauty, did the 'Lord' cut your tongue?" The girl began laughing as though there was a hidden joke in what she said, Mar'i stared at her unable to say anything, completely overwhelmed by the market. "Relax, I'm not going to bite, I saw you with old man creepy and was about to step in before his 'royal majesty' came in." "Royal majesty... He's the king?", Mar'i slowly asked. "Ha! Not even close, he just oversees the market as per the King's orders. You really aren't from here, everyone knows that." "Uh yes, I'm... new... here"

"Woah slow down chatterbox, I didn't catch all of that", the elf laughs goodnaturedly, "well since I'm here and have nothing better to do, let me help you out, what do you need?" "Uh I need information" "Great! On what?" "I'm not exactly sure, I was hoping I would figure it when I got here..."  The elf looked at her with a looked the screamed disbelief, "you really thought that the answers would come to you when you got to the city? You really are a kid." Mar'i embarrassed by the situation quickly begins to walk away stating, ''It's fine I'll figure it on my own". The elf quickly runs in front of her to stop her from going anywhere, "Wait, I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that, but you need to be careful the city isn't safe, let me help you".  "What do you want from me?" "Nothing, besides you don't look like you've got anything of value that I would want. Now why exactly are you here? What's the end goal? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?" "...Adventure?" "Are you sure? You don't seem so sure" "I'm sure" "Great! Then you're lucky you ran into me then, let's go!"

The elf takes of running into the market, having grabbed Mar'i's hand and was dragging her through the market until she suddenly stopped and said, "I'm Eloise by the way and sorry I didn't ask if you wanted to come with me". She realised that maybe sticking with the elf- Eloise would be wise as she didn't seem like a direct threat to her right now and from the look of things, she seemed to know the city quite well. "Um it's no problem Eloise"

Mar'i did not realise at the time that meeting Eloise would change and impact her life so greatly
