You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

“Good day ma'am. My name is Isurus Lamnidae. As you can likely tell, I'm not from around here. I come from a far off land not so different from this one. Though to explain why I am here…Hm…” I stop to ponder for a moment while scratching the back of their head. “Well I've got nowhere to be so I might as well start from the beginning. I grew up in a tree top village with my father and other 'are people. My father was always very set in us keeping the old ways and conserving nature but I could hardly care. I found it rather unnecessary and primitive compared to the tales of the grand cities of the High Elves. The only time I felt my father and I could really get along was when we went fishing together. The need to be quiet to not frighten the fish helped a lot. Once I was old enough, I used the knowledge of carpentry I had learned from my people to begin to make a name for myself outside of the Wood. Eventually I was invited to become an architect  in a High Elf city. My father didn't approve of course which led to a fierce argument. It ended with me leaving my home... I have seen neither it nor my father since.” I look down rather glumly “My mood drastically changed once I entered the city. It was gorgeous and I couldn't help but feel I belonged surrounded by such wondrous buildings. Well that is until I met its citizens. Even with my architectural prowess, they still considered me inferior due to my bloodline. I guess that's when I started wandering around beyond the city’s walls and found a majestic grove bountiful with plant and animal life. I never really cared for nature but in this place, I felt safe and at home. One day after a long day of overseeing the construction of a new housing area for the ever growing population, I felt I deserved a nice long visit to my little grove. When I got there, that peace I had felt had suddenly turned into great heartache. All of the trees within the acre had all been cut down. Not even a bush or a quiet bird’s song were left. I found out soon after that the lumber was collected here for a construction project. MY project… I began to feel guilt for all I had done, and question if this is truly how I wanted to spend my life. So, I decided to leave everything behind and try to start anew. I thought about what I could possibly do that I would enjoy when suddenly a happy memory passed my mind. Fishing with my father at a peaceful pond. Now with a plan, I chose a destination where I could become someone new. Someone my father would be proud of. And so, here I am.” I smile and spread their arms to gesture to the room around them.
