You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"Thanks, but I've been traveling long and far, and I would probably just get your cushion dirty... I can stand!" (the traveler smiles in a way that suggests he was grateful for the offer) "But how rude of me, I should answer your question shouldn't I.
My "Story" you say... sure thing... it's actually long... I will try and keep it brief.
As far as I can tell from the history I have read of my people, we came into a land not unlike this one several hundred thousand years ago. Originally we lived in a small area, and didn't travel far from our origins. There were these beings known as Sentinels that saw to that. They were sort of a 'godfather' figure race, that nurtured my ancestors along slowly. Until one day they vanished from our history books. We've never heard of them again.
Over time, my people developed Seers and Farseers. Their role was to guide the population forward. Skipping a lot of history here, eventually one very powerful Farseer foresaw the Cataclysm, which would threaten the existence of our people. She ordered the First Great Dispersion. Our people went in small groups in every direction and travelled for 10 years before settling down.
Eons passed, and there were more and more Dispersions. At some point in our history, we started aligning with the elements more and more. My clan is descended from the original water clan. But that matters little anymore, because all the clans are gone. As far as I know there are only a few of our culture left, and we are lone wanderers.
That's because of the great war. Our mortal enemies were about to make us extinct, when the Elders took one last, desperate chance to end the war. It worked, more or less. It wiped out the enemy, and nearly all of us with it. And damaged Nature in a way that she is still mad at us about.
After the war, I started wandering the lands, just trying to get back in touch with nature and my history. Trying to find others from my culture. Looking for a place to call home, you know? That quest has led me here.
But wait, you mentioned you'd been expecting me? I have not traveled this way before, how is it I am expected exactly ... may I ask ... are you a sort of Seer?" (he looks on, curiously and waits for a response).
