In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming, I ensure that my character’s actions are realistic and fair within the setting of the roleplay. I avoid forcing actions on other players' characters without their consent and respect the limitations of my character’s abilities. For example, if my character is a farmer, I wouldn’t suddenly make them able to wield a sword like a trained knight without proper in-game development or training. Additionally, I focus on collaborative storytelling, ensuring that all players have a chance to contribute meaningfully.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay by breaking the immersion and balance of the game. When a player uses out-of-character knowledge to influence their in-character decisions, it can lead to unfair advantages and spoil the narrative for others. For example, if I learn through a chat that another character is planning an ambush and my character acts on this knowledge without having learned it in-game, it undermines the fairness and realism of the roleplay. To prevent this, I strictly separate out-of-character information from my character’s actions and decisions.

Character Name: Alaric Edvan
Character Race: Highlander
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 18
Physical Description: 6'1, male, athletic, not too muscular, black "ceasar" hair, blue eyes, wears ripped pieces of brown clothing, a iron helmet and a chainmail.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example:

Alaric steps into the dim, swampy town, his gaze fixed on the rotted shacks and moss-covered cabins. His blue eyes are sharp, the iron helmet low over his Caesar-cut black hair. He moves quietly toward the tattered tent.

Inside, flickering candlelight illuminates the old hag, who studies him before speaking.

“What brings you to this town?” she asks. “Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures. “Tell me your story.”

Alaric removes his helmet, his blue eyes meeting hers. “I’m Alaric Edvan. I roam these lands, seeking what’s lost. What do you know of this place? Why was I expected?”

His tone remains calm, always aware of danger.

Alaric adjusts his stance slightly, his voice steady. “I’ve travelled far to get here, through wilds harsher than this. My father taught me to hunt and survive before the wolves took him. My mother kept me alive until sickness claimed her too. Since then, I’ve relied on my own skills—tracking, hunting, and staying unseen. It’s how I’ve made it this far.”

He rests a hand lightly on the hilt of his dagger, his gaze unwavering. “Now I’m a wanderer, a bounty hunter when the work finds me. But I go where the trail leads, and it’s led me here. Tell me why.”

Hi there! As you can see, your app is almost ready! Just a few changes you need to make, but don’t worry - you are doing great!

Your application is looking great, but please provide a little more backstory. It does not need to be in-depth, but something more specific would be more acceptable. If you are confused on what to add, think of your character's parents, past relationships, ambitions, etc.

You’ll be given 48 hours to correct the changes above. Once you are done correcting, please contact me!

My discord is fumi__ If you don’t have discord, please message me on the forums @outcook

you can join the LotC Discord here :Discord

I recommend going to the New player’s category, going to help chat. Pinging @Community team saying “I’m new and would like some help with my application. I got put on pending!” If I or another team member can not be reached.

If you still need help, make sure to check the wiki! WIKI
