How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: In roleplaying, you can only assume what will happen based on the circumstance. For example, if a fight breaks out between two players, one cannot emote "I decapitate you, you're now dead." This specific circumstance may be acceptable in certain scenes such as an execution, or the very end of a fight when it is clear who the winner is and the opposition is very obviously incapacitated. Probability is the sole likelihood in roleplaying. Is it probable that you're able to win a fight against a group of players? No. Is it probable to pick a lock on a heavily fortified door? No. If you get shot in the leg with an arrow, you're not going to be able to escape the fight. Etc.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming is acting on information that your character should not know, but you were somehow able to figure out outside of the roleplaying world. It negates the entirety of the RP experience. For example, if I'm looking for an artifact, and I go on an ALT account to fly around as a WS and see it hanging up at the top of a tower, it's abusing the game mechanics that a rule abiding roleplayer would never have access to.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Samuel Godehard, his boots caked with swamp muck, steps into the tattered tent and surveys the dimly lit interior. The flickering candles cast eerie shadows on the walls, making the place feel even more mysterious. The scent of rotted wood and wet moss hangs heavy in the air. He closes the tent flap behind him and takes a moment to adjust to the low light.

As the old hag raises her head and speaks, Samuel's blue eyes meet hers with a mixture of curiosity and caution. Her words catch him off guard, especially the part about expecting him. He hesitates for a moment, then decides to comply, walking further into the tent and settling onto the offered cushion.

With a nod of acknowledgment, he begins to speak in a measured, deliberate tone, his voice carrying a certain gravitas that has been honed through years of adventure. "I've come to this town seeking answers, seeking a truth that has eluded me for too long," he says. "It seems you know something, or perhaps someone, that can help me on my journey."

His gaze remains fixed on the old hag, his expression a mix of determination and intrigue. "But before I share my story, I'd like to know how you came to expect me and what knowledge you possess. There's a tale here, and I suspect it's far from ordinary." Samuel's sharp mind is already piecing together the puzzle, and he's prepared to delve deeper into the mysteries of this dim, swampy town.
