    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: To metagame is to make use of knowledge gained out-of-character that your character would not know or have access to in-character, such as if you're playing D&D and knowing that your DM plans to lead the party through an underwater section next session without prior warning in-game, so you choose to prepare a waterbreathing spell despite your character having no reason to.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming, what I learned as godmoding, is acting in a such a way that removes the agency of other people's character(s) or giving your own unrealistic or unfair capabilities, such as emoting automatically striking or stealing from someone without giving them the opportunity to respond or defend themselves in character. A latter example would be, literally, making a godly character with all the power and implications that come with it, which I suspect is where godmoding comes from.
