    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using knowledge of any kind that your character should not know about to your advantage in roleplay. Something like an opponent's weaknesses, their personalities, what they've done that day, their backstory, any trait than hasn't been observed somehow. Can also be applied not to other characters, but core mechanics of roleplay, such as abilities, or powers, mentioning magics that they had no idea about, etc.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Using overpowered abilities or techniques, or being lazy in writing, not giving an opponent a chance to counter an attack, or even react to certain things. Some powerplay can consist of ending a fight in one sentence, doing far too much for a single action, instantly breaking an opponents body part, smashing an opponents weapon (without their permission) etc.

Millyin stumbled off of the boat, quickly making her way towards the main land, absolutely on edge as she'd had no desire to stay near the ocean for longer than she had to. As she did, she stumbled into a well dressed gentleman.
"Welcome!" He began “What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?” He asked.
Millyin stepped back, still highly agitated. "Hey, watch where you're going! I'm trying to go somewhere!" She exclaimed, a bit louder than she had meant, but there was no way anyone was keeping her close to the terrible depths of the sea. She moved past, not bothering to answer the man's question. She knew what she was there for: To make something of her life, finally free from her parent's scrutiny. She made her way through the marketplace, not especially intent on buying anything, though a few fish sellers caught her eye, nearly causing her to completely stop and become sidetracked.
