You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?)) He turns toward the old lady, dazed from his travels, and musters, "Who... who are you?" She ignores his question and continues to gesture at the cushion. He moves toward the cushion and sits down. "I don't know where to start. I've come from a place far away. I ventured from my home on what was a magnificent ship, and it was a nice size as well. It held nice people willing to let me travel with them. We ventured out into the seas, told stories, and had a good time, and I was night watch while everyone slept. I watched the boat and made sure no one would come for us, but one night the weather decided to change. I thought it would be fine, but it became more extreme, and as soon as the thought of notifying the crew of the boat occurred, we flipped. I tried—I really did try to help them get out of the sleeping quarters, but the door wouldn't budge, and I couldn't get to them. I swam to the quickly declining air pocket, and I heard the words 'leave, leave.' Ultimately, I swam and got out from under the boat, and I managed to grab onto some fallen cargo, one of the few things that would float. I began to doze off with sorrow on my mind, ignorant of the fact that I might fall off. As I awoke, I managed to stay on during that night. I rose and noticed land that held a small town, close enough to where I could swim to it , and I eventually made it to this town. As I entered this town from the water, the townsfolk noticed my tattered clothing and offered to help me. They stitched up my clothes, gave me food, and helped me get on my feet. I began to travel the world, which led me here."

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Have realistic expectations of the world, pay attention to how the situation is going and maybe depending on the scenario, sorta give the other player a heads up on what you might do and always make sure you follow the rules of the world and always pay attention to your characters motivations don't think about what you would think about what your character would do
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming takes away from character development and makes your characters knowledge very similar to yours and and shift the knowledge of power towards whos comiting the act causing a loss of immersion and character development for both party's it also can ruin your character by causing them to be unrealistic in their roleplay
